Sorry my mommy hasn't been around much! She's been very busy taking care of me. So I thought I would do a post. Yes, I am a genius baby and can type already. Life has been good to me so far. Mommy and Daddy do silly things to get me to smile all the time. Sometimes, it's not really that funny but I smile anyways so I don't hurt their feelings. The thing on my neck (mom and dad call it a hemangioma) seems to be getting a little better. I don't scream anymore when they bathe me or get me dressed, so I think it's healing! I'm back to kind of loving my baths again! Mommy uses this foamy lavender soap that I love and even sometimes uses a soap that leaves me smelling like apple pie! In the past two weeks or so I realized I have two hands attached to my arms. These things are delicious and I can't stop trying to eat them!! I tried out my bumbo seat this week! It was pretty awesome (for a little while) and then I wanted out. I've been enjoying swinging at the toys hanging from my playmat. I'm just realizing if I hit them they will move! I may have had it out with Sophie the Giraffe the other day. I kept swinging at her until she fell down. Probably not very nice of me, but mommy thought it was funny. My neck is getting stronger. I still cry quite a bit but my colic is definitely improving!! So that's making mom and dad happy. I am so alert and LOVE to look around at everything! There are some pretty cool things to look at in this world Don't know what all these things are, but they are cool to look at. I have been sleeping in my crib this week at night. Mommy put my bouncer in the crib to get me used to it. I'm sleeping great! I usually go down around 9:45-10 until about 4 or 5 when I wake mommy up to feed me! And most of the time I'll go back down after that for a little while. Mommy bought me a cute bird nightlight from PBK and it makes being alone in the dark not as scary! Still don't like napping much during the day, but if Mommy and Daddy take me in the car, it's LIGHTS OUT for me. My reflux (as Mommy, Daddy and Dr. G call it) has been pretty rough the last week. I've been spitting my milk back up quite a bit. I don't like it. It tastes better going down, than coming up! The other night I fire-hose-puked all over Daddy. He almost puked too. This past weekend I went in the pool for the first time at my Nana and Papa's house! At first, I didn't really like the feel of the cold water (didn't feel like a bath!) but after a little while I was sort of okay with it. But they didn't keep me in there very long. Nana and Papa bought me a little pool too, but the water was too cold for me! I can't wait to use it next time. I have a few appointments this week to go to and on Friday I see Dr. G again. They are going to check my weight and I've been coughing (a dry cough, the reflux maybe?)and sneezing a bit. The 'rents are nervous I have a cold or something! No fever though. Dr. G said he might try me on food at 4 months! Mmmmm, bring on the cereal!! I want some Oatmeal too. And when my fine motor skills get going, I want those little puffs that I see all the other kids eating. They look yummy. Well, I better go. Almost time for my bottle and bedtime.
I just realized that on this day last year I had my lap surgery to find out if I had any endo that was preventing pregnancy. As you can see from the (super cute) baby picture above, so much can happen in a year. And wow, am I glad she happened...:)
Last week E (from Manymanymoons) and I got our lil ladies together!! Samantha's first playdate (well with another itty bitty baby that is)!! It was really so cool to just be sitting in E's living room with our two baby girls! We couldn't believe it :)
I must say Baby Am.elia is a beauty!!! And was a sleeping beauty that day. I was worried about Samantha crying a lot (and she sort of did!) so we decided to take a walk around the neighborhood with the girls. It was so nice! And once again, we couldn't believe we were pushing (our baby girls!) in strollers on a walk together! It seems like a lifetime ago when E and I first met over brunch and bitchin about infertility :)
We both took pictures of the girls together, but for some reason I can't find them on my camera! Boooo! So hopefully E can post one of hers. It's funny because Am.elia is a regular size newborn, and Samantha is 3 months and still such a peanut!!!
It'll be fun to watch these lil ladies grow together :) That is if E doesn't up and leave to Ohio someday! :)
I don't think I even updated you all on Sam's last appt. She is 8lbs 14oz as of last Friday!! Still on the Neocate which seems to be helping a lot. Her colic is improving, but she still cries a lot in the early evening. But she has been getting better overall. She takes catnaps during the day, but sleeps like a rockstar at night. That's probably a bad analogy since I don't think rockstars get much sleep with all the partying :) The doc thinks the hemangioma on her neck is getting better, but I dont know. It still seems to bother her, but maybe not as much? The doc said we could look into drugs to help reduce it, but Im not sure we will go that route. We have another appt with the plastic surgeon (just to keep an eye on it) this coming week. She's been smiling more!!! And I absolutely love it :) She's also been enjoying her play mat more and sucking on her hands! She's been "talking" a lot too :) Ahhh I just love her to pieces. I can't stop kissing her!!
We are trying her in her crib tonight for the first time! She's been sleeping in her bouncer the last month. I think because of the reflux, she likes sleeping on an incline with the vibration on. And this is going to be hard to break. Even though shes on prilosec for reflux it seems to be worse lately. She's been spitting up a lot more. Anyways, don't laugh at me, but I may have put her whole bouncer in the crib! My plan is to do this for a few nights to get her used to the crib/room and then not use the bouncer. She had been taking a nap a day in her crib awhile back, but that stopped because she doesnt really nap well during the day now. Just lil catnaps here and there. So shes's in there now, in the bouncer, in the crib, sleepin :) I do plan on sleeping on the floor in there for a few nights. I'm kind of emotional about this switch to the crib!!! :( I'm used to her sleeping nearby! I hope this goes well. Good thing we put AC in her room yesterday, because today was HOT in New York. Holy (hot) cow. You could cut the heat with a knife.
Oh! And how could I forget. Sam did have a lil playdate too with her future BFF "K" who's still in utero :) She can't wait until September for her friend to arrive!!! <3
My husband came home from work and had hopped in the shower. Samantha was in her swing and started crying, so I went over stopped the swing and picked her up and put her on my shoulder. She started to calm down and I turned around to walk with her and one of my worst fears came true...
I tripped over the bouncer and Samantha and I went tumbling forward. I couldn't catch my balance and she fell out of my arms! As if it were in slow motion, I saw her bounce her side against the bouncer and I was able to scoop her up before she hit the floor! It was probably the most awful thing I've ever experienced. She started crying, I started crying and shaking and ran with her to get my husband. She stopped crying almost right away. We layed her down and checked her all out. No cuts or bruises. But I was hystercial. Ever since we brought her home one of my greatest fears has been tripping and dropping her :( And I can't believe it actually happened. She seems completely fine but of course I'm obsessing about internal bleeding or something. Ugh.
I was so shook up over it. It was the worst feeling! Thank God she didn't hit the coffee table which was just inches away! Ugh.
So there you have it. Mother of the year, right here....
Baby girl turned 3 months old on the 8th! Now I'm sort of wishing time would slow down a bit! Been very busy lately (and that's why I didn't do a 3 mth post on the actual day!) :)
My sister in law does photography as a side business and they are up from North Carolina. She did a family photo shoot today of us! I can't wait to see the finished product, because there were some SUPER cute ones of Samantha!! :)
Heading to the doctor's with Sam on Friday for a weight check and to talk about getting a second opinion on the hemangioma. Will update then! Hope everyone's Summer is getting off to a good start :)
I just realized that I forgot to post about Samantha's plastic surgery appointment. And I have other thoughts flying around, so I thought I should just write it up...
Her appointment was uneventful. The doctor doesn't want to do anything with the hemangioma because he would have to put her under, and that's too risky. Since it's started to heal on it's own (but could take a whole year!) he just wants to monitor it. And in the meantime all we can do is put neosporin on it and bandages and give her tylenol. This thing is evil though. And just LOOKS painful. She used to love baths and now it's torture for us both! And getting her dressed is heartbreaking too. My poor girl..
Is it possible to fall in love with your baby even more each day? Because I think that's what's happening. Just when I think I couldn't possibly love her anymore than I already do, my heart grows bigger. She's been doing a bit better. Her "cry" time now is about 6-10ish. She's been a little happier during the day. We even had our first mommy and daughter mall trip the other day! I will be honest I was sweating a little afraid she was going to freak out, but she did okay! A few cries but nothing major. I just had to keep the stroller moving. I definitely need some practice with maneuvering a stroller in a small store. I can't tell you how many displays I almost knocked down. And it was strange to have to search for an elevator instead of using the escalator! So many people stopped to admire my lil babe and most of them said " Oh wow, a brand new little baby!." She does look like she could be just days old! :) So I had to explain the whole preemie story to them. Which of course made them even more bananas over her...
My peanut princess is in a strange place with clothes though. She's getting a little too small for some newborn stuff, but most of the 0-3 month stuff is too big!!! Just like her mom, nothing fitting right! She has such a full closet but it's been hard to dress her. I put away her preemie clothes :( She's still in newborn diapers, but I think we are gonna try size 1 this week (because we have a lot of them!) and they start at 8lbs. So we'll see how they work out.
Still not too many smiles yet :( I was very excited because last Thursday I got two!! But nothing really since. Maybe one yesterday, but I wasn't sure if it was a real one or not. I've decided to stop obsessing about it though. When she's ready, she's ready. Her adjusted age is just a month and almost two weeks! She's probably thinking " Gimme a break Mom!"
This summer is looking to be a busy one already! I think we have something going on almost every weekend! This weekend my husband's step-brother and his family are coming up from NC to visit. And his wife is a photographer and is going to take a few family pictures of us! And we also have my niece's 2nd birthday party.
Have you guys seen these photos? I just love them! I want to try setting some up at home with Sam :)
Something happened this past week in our community that is just heartbreaking. A 14 year old girl (who was also a student of my brother-in-laws) took her own life :( I didn't know the family personally but my husband had worked for the girls father years ago. I just can't stop thinking about this poor girl and her family. Maybe because I'm a parent now and I have a daughter? I can't imagine ever going through something like that. This girl had such a bright future ahead of her. She was beautiful, friendly, smart, a great athlete, loved by so many!!! It just crushes my heart to think that she was feeling that depressed or desperate to go ahead and take her own life. Just makes me squeeze my baby girl a little tighter. So when you are done reading this, do me a favor, go hug someone in your house that you love and would miss dearly...

You are one lucky (and beautiful!) little lady. You've scored yourself some really great parents! You, sweet girl, have erased all the heartbreak and have changed their lives forever. Samantha and I can't wait to meet you!
