First pediatrician visit!

Samantha had her first doctor's visit yesterday. My husband couldn't get out of work to come with us so my mom came along, thank goodness! I definitely played the "new mom" role. I had packed a diaper bag. A few extra outfits, wipes, burp cloths, her bottle in case it ran into feeding time, and 3 diapers. Where was my mistake? The THREE diapers.

First night home, I forced myself to stay awake all night to check her breathing. And I was excited to have her home. So I didn't sleep at all that night! Second night home was pretty bad. I was sooo exhausted and had planned to sleep when she slept. But she didn't sleep much! And was so fussy because she was constipated. Was only okay in my arms, was crying a lot and just wasn't happy. I was so exhausted that I thought I was going to drop her. By morning I was in tears. Thankfully my mom took a few days off to come help me while matt is at work and I've gotten a few naps in!

So back to the doctor's visit, she was constipated. So the doctor (who I love btw he was so great) stimulated her witha  rectal thermometer and sure enough...big blow out! And the reason why bringing only three diapers out somewhere isn't enough!! Thankfully though she was good to go on the third diaper. But lesson learned...pack lots of diapers when I go out!

I was so happy she pooped because you could definitely tell she was feeling better :) And she went again today. I never thought I would be so excited to see someone poop!

But we are trying to settle in to a routine. I just love her so much! She has to eat every three hours. No choice in letting her or me sleep through it. But last night was a little better!

Here are her stats from the visit:

She is 5lbs 1 oz now!!! She hit the 5 lb mark! :) And she is 17 inches long now..so she grew half an inch since birth...

Any tips on getting her to burp? She can be pretty difficult to burp.

Gotta run...the princess is waking...

Here are a few pics....

Sarah- Put her on your lap with her legs to the side like she was looking out a window in the car (sorry only way to explain it), lean her forward on your hand with your palm push up towards her ribs, pat her not hard but not soft and alternate with rubbing. This has always worked for me! :) She is adorable!!!

Oh my gosh- she is SOOOO cute! I can't believe how tiny she is in that carseat. Precious.

As for burping, I have no clue. Paisley never burped (but did like to puke), so I have no tips!

I've done the same method as Babydreams and it always works for me too.

i agree with babydreams2011. that seems to work for mack when the shoulder method just doesn't cut it. YAY for pooping...i think. ;) i'm always praising mack for pooping so well. it's the little things that make moms happy, isn't it? ha ha! sounds like you're doing a great job. i'm so glad your mom has been able to help so much. the first few weeks at home are really tough, but your routine will just sort of work itself out and you'll get back to being able to sleep. :) i'm just so happy for you!!!

So little!!! Brings me back to when my peanut was a 5 pounder.... Enjoy this little itty bitty stage. She will grow so fast!!!!!!

Yay for normal mom stuff! So glad you gave her home with you. <3

Such a peanut! And yes, poop can be SO exciting.

For a burp, sometimes laying her across your legs and just moving her back and forth and rubbing her back can help -- burps or gas -- both directions.

So glad your little one is home! I went through the same thing as you with the hypertension and baby staying in the NICU so I am so familiar with the feelings you have been having. For the burping... try rubbing her back in clockwise motions in between pats on the back. This seems to work for my little one. It kind of stirs up their bellies and pushes that burp out. Hope this helps!

OMG, she is so cute! In the last pic, she is wearing a sleeper Addy had as a newborn and is in the swing both of my kids lived in! Brings back memories! Jax used to get constipated a lot too and I was SO excited when he pooped, so I totally know what you're saying, lol! Hang in there - during this newborn phase, we worry about every little cry, burp, fart, poop, whatever, lol! Before you know it, she'll be walking and talking and this foggy, exhaustion filled phase will seem like it was ages ago. REST as much as you can so you can survive this with some grace, lol! Take ALL the help anyone will give you. And keep posting pictures:).

Gotta love mommyhood when your baby taking a poop makes your day :) Been there for sure haha! I hope you can get into a routine soon and get some sleep when she's sleeping. Thank goodness for Mom's helping out though, they are the best! I always keep an extra sort of diaper emergency bag in the car besides the regular one I pack....change of clothes for each kid and extra diapers and wipes just in case, then you always have a backup for when those high poop days occur :) She looks so cute in her swing, hope I can meet her soon <3

Ps. Just realized we have the same swing. Now I just need a baby to put in it! Four more days!! :)
