Mother of the Year

So guess what happened this afternoon...

My husband came home from work and  had hopped in the shower. Samantha was in her swing and started crying, so I went over stopped the swing and picked her up and put her on my shoulder.  She started to calm down and I turned around to walk with her and one of my worst fears came true...

I tripped over the bouncer and Samantha and I went tumbling forward. I couldn't catch my balance and she fell out of my arms! As if it were in slow motion, I saw her bounce her side against the bouncer and I was able to scoop her up before she hit the floor! It was probably the most awful thing I've ever experienced. She started  crying, I started crying and shaking and ran with her to get my husband. She stopped crying almost right away. We layed her down and checked her all out. No cuts or bruises. But I was hystercial. Ever since we brought her home one of my greatest fears has been tripping and dropping her :( And I can't believe it actually happened. She seems completely fine but of course I'm obsessing about internal bleeding or something. Ugh.

I was so shook up over it. It was the worst feeling! Thank God she didn't hit the coffee table which was just inches away! Ugh.

So there you have it. Mother of the year, right here....

I tripped while going down the stairs with her when she was itty bitty. She stayed in my arms because I fell on my butt, but it was ROUGH and I was so upset.

Just last week within a two day period she fell down the stairs (just one or two...) and fell off my bed onto her head.

Just be glad she isn't mobile yet. Then the danger REALLY starts!!!!

I let Paisley roll off the ottoman in the living room when she was about that age because I just didn't expect her to roll over yet. And I can't count how many things have happened since. Don't beat yourself up!!!

oh man.. I just had a flash back (two actually). The first night D came home from the NICU I just got done feeding him and tried to burp him. 3 hrs later still no good burp. I leaned against the headboard and continued to hold him on my shoulder and pat him. FINALLY he burped... I leaned over to my left to place him in the bassinet beside my bed. I "layed" him in and went to lay back down. But then I heard a thump. I placed my had where he was suppose to be and he wasnt there!!! I jumped up and looked every where for him. His apnea monitor was not going off so I knew he was ok. I yelled out to Hubs that I "lost" the baby!! He moved quicker than I ever seen him move. He lifted the bassinet/playpen and there D was, laying under the edge of our bed!!! I must have miss judged how far I had lean over and he "rolled" between our bed and the mesh on the side of play pen. A few months later MJ was recently home from the NICU and I had both of them in our bed. We have a king bed. They were both asleep in their boppys and I knew it was feeding time. I ran down stairs to grab their bottles. As I was leaving the kitchen D (poor kid) started crying like crazy. The whole minute it took for me to grab their bottles and a couple other things on the way up the steps back into our room, he managed to cry/scream/squirm himself off the side of the bed. This time he screamed like no other. Im 5'8 and have to climb up into our bed its so high. I threw everything into the bed and ran over to the far side to see he was once again half under the bed and half out of the bed on the ground face down. FREAKED OUT!!!! I have since learned not to ever leave the twins in the bed even if they are too your to move around and to clean a walking path.

I am so sorry to hear of the ordeal you went through. The feeling sucks... almost at their 4th birthday whenever I hear of others having similar mishaps it places me right back to those two days. Since then they have both taken numerous falls, bumps, scrapes and even a broken femur.

Sorry so long :). I know it might not make you feel any better about it but know you are NOT the only one that has gone thorough this!

Aaaand....welcome to motherhood, lol! Sh*t happens - we will fail our children over and over again - but we love them more than anything and that is all that matters, and they KNOW it. Samantha knows this, I swear:).

Oh yes, when Stella somehow rolled off the cough when she was itty bitty and face planted on the floor..UGH...my heart just dropped. It happens though. Thank god Samantha is okay!

I let Matthew "surf" down the stairs because he hadn't moved in 5 minutes from his play spot, so I figured, "what's a couple seconds so I can put something in the microwave?" And that's when I heard the two thuds (him hitting the bottom of the stairs, and cracking his head on the trim).

My friend just told me the other day that her husband dropped their 4 month old on concrete - on her head - and she was fine.

As my sister says - drunks and babies bounce very well ;)

you are definitely not alone in your fear or having it come true. i said something to mack's dr about this fear, because ofmy dropping my little sister when i was young. she told me not to worry, because babies are surprisingly sturdy. i have seen mack hit his head so many times on the floor and he is just fine. it probably scared you way more than it hurt her. at least now you've gotten that milestone checked off your list and can stop worrying about it. ;) trust me, you're still a fantastic mom!

How scary! I think that happens to everyone though....and seriously, what is it about the bouncer? I think mine grows longer or something, I'm always tripping over the edge of it. So glad to hear that you are both okay :)

Oh no, truly a mom's worst nightmare to trip and fall when holding your precious baby. It happens though, even when we are being as careful as possible. I agree that she probably just got scared and it upset you way more than it did her. I'm glad she's ok though, she's one tough cookie!

Girl-that shit happens! It won't be the first or last time you do something that makes you feel like a crappy parent. I distinctly remember walking away from the couch when my girls were only a few days old (I mean, what could go wrong...it's not like they can move). Well Stella got enough leverage by pushing off of a dog and went head first off of the couch in slow motion). I cried and scream hysterically. She was totally fine. Fortunately...kids bounce!

You poor thing!! My worst fear when I was babysitting was doing something like that - especially since they weren't my kids! How on earth do you try and explain something like that to the people who have entrusted the care of their children to you!?
Unfortunately, on a few different occasions things happened - I would lose my grip getting them out of the jumping gym and they'd fall sideways, they'd be sitting up on the couch, and I would turn to pick up a toy and they'd fall, I'd be carrying them and trip on a toy etc. Scariest moments ever!!! But it happens, and all of the kids have grown up healthy and awesome little peeps!! Honestly, I think it was worse on me than them!!

That's one of my fears too! You are definitely nt a bad mom, these things seem to happen to everyone and babies are fine! Don't beat yourself up, some of us are just a little more clumsy than others like me always smashing my leg on the corner of our bed lol! Thinking of you and sweet lil Sam! I'll have to send you another email ASAP! ;)

oh honey. This is also one of my biggest fears. Scares me to death! We have about 20 stairs that lead up to the baby's nursery and they are hardwood/slippery. I'm terrified of falling down them with our little one in my arms. I told my husband we have exactly 4.5 months to get some type of non-skid surface applied, I don't care if they are the little duckies that go in the bathtub! SOOO glad Sam is alright! Don't beat yourself up though, I'm sure these things will happen more and more often as she grows and becomes more mobile.
