A Buck Fifty

According to my little baby widget thing on my blog, I have 150 days to go before Lil' Miracle arrives. Wow. For some reason, that doesn't sound like a very long time to me. I know it kind of is and come the third trimester I will be all " OMG this is taking forevaaaaaaaaaaa. Come out already baby!." But for right now, 150 days seems doable...

4 days until gender and name reveal! I know you're pumped :) ha. I'm not counting today or Monday. Monday is the actual appointment, but in my eyes it doesn't count. So 4 days!

What are your opinions on taking childbirth and breastfeeding classes? I'm really interested in taking a breastfeeding class. However, I'm still on the fence about childbirth classes. Which I'm sure some of you just gasped. I've just been asking people how their childbirth classes went and most of them weren't impressed. Because basically anything can happen come delivery day. You can practice breathing techniques all you want but they may not become useful. Although, I know some (most) people like to be prepared. So I don't know what we'll do. A lot of people have actually said that when it comes down to the moment, the nurses coach you through the breathing and pushing anyways. I know I probably should take the childbirth class, being this is our first kid and all. But I don't know, still on the fence...

Rockefeller Tree lighting is tonight! I still get so excited for this every single year!! We usually go down to the city around this time and see the Radio City show. But not this year. Which is fine, because walking blocks and blocks around the city while pregnant just doesn't appeal to me very much :)

I took both classes and a taking care of your newborn type class and I learned a lot in all of them, I'm sure every class is different though. 150 days will go by before you know it!!

I'm planning to take both classes. Even if everything is different than what we expect, the more I can learn and know, the better I feel. Can't wait for you to find out on Monday!!!

I haven't heard good things about our local hospital birth classes, so we didnt' do them. We DID have a birth class of sorts though since we did the hypnobabies birth class. I think it's good just to help you (and especially your husband) be better prepared for what happens during different stages of labor, complications that can happen (and your options of how to deal with those things).

That being said, i DO think you should do a hospital tour. Our hosptial did a free tour (took us maybe 30 min?) where the nurse showed us the birthing rooms, did our initial check-in information, etc. It's just nice that we'll know exactly where to go when we walk in and I'm in the midst of contractions.

We did a childbirth class and thought it was helpful. There were a lot of good newborn care and safety tips. As for nursing, we hired a private lactation consultant to come to our house and her help was invaluable.

I read the Bradley book and took a Hypnobirthing class. I liked both because we wanted to try to go naturaland unmedicated and it was nice to know what to expect. As much as nurses may be there to help you at the very end, you do not have anyone by your side for tge hours before except your partner. My labors were over 24 hours. I'd recomend a class. While your birth may not go how you plan or envision it, it is good to have a god knowledge of the birthing process, challanges and ways to cope through each stage.

I would also highly reommend a breast feexing class, too. I never took one, just read books. Breast feeding was and still isbthe single most challanging thing I've done. It is also rewarding, bonding and an amazing gift you can give your baby. I'd also recommend a support group. I cam from a formula family and found lots of help from a group online.

I'll have to tune in for the tree lighting tonight. Yeah a birthing class might be a good idea. Never got that far so I wouldn't really know though. Good luck!

I took a childbirth class and honestly did not feel like it helped me at all. It actually hurt me because they emphasized waiting as long as possible before heading to the hospital, my labor was only 1 hr and 54mins and my daughter was almost born in the parking lot of the hospital. So much for "first time moms always come to the hospital too early" which is what I was told. I sort of wish I had taken a class that taught me relaxation and breathing for pushing because I ended up with no epidural and wasn't really sure what to do.

I think a breastfeeding class can be very helpful if you do not have immediate family members or friends who can help you when you first get home. My mom breastfed all of us and I would have quit if she had not been there to help me. A class maybe could have taught me the same things she did.

So I say yes to breastfeeding class, and no to childbirth lol

I NEVER Had that third trimester desire for it to be over. I loved being pregnant and 150 days goes by SO fast, so just enjoy it:).

Breastfeeding classes for sure - and then make sure you have access to a lactation consultant afterwards. Bfing was the hardest part of having Addison for me, by far, and I almost quit a few times.

Childbirth classes were nice to learn about the phases of childbirth and normalize it a little more so it wasn't so scary. I did not use any of the techniques though, so you could argue it wasn't that useful, lol! The hospital pediatrician did come and talk to us about some common newborn things and that was helpful. Good luck!

I say yes to the classes. I'm sure you'll learn more than you think. Plus the husbands need it most! I am so excited to know you are letting us know the gender and name...what if you change your mind?

We took childbirth classes through our hospital. I thought they seemed really helpful and got me thinking more about what I'd ideally like to happen during my labor and delivery. That being said, I haven't delivered yet, so I will have to see how helpful they really were. We took our breastfeeding class tonight. Again, it seemed like good information, but we'll have to wait and see.

I didn't take any classes...for the exact reason you said...I don't think any class would have changed how my L&D went because the nurses were always there to help me anyway. Apparently I was a pretty good pusher too (after so many years TTC, 10months of pregnancy and 17 hours of labor I was getting that baby out in as few pushes as possible!!!)
As for bf a class can help but for me it wasn't my thing...call me antisocial but I don't like being around other people...everything I needed to learn I found online and I found a great supper from the discussion forums for moms due the same month as me on thebump.com we still talk to each other all the time! Many women were just saying this week that hearing the challenges other June mamas had with nursing helped them to continue and not give up...
But I certainly think it's good to have access to an LC if you have any challenges...
