First cold since becoming pregnant. HELP!

Ughhhh girls, I am feeling like complete crap. And right before Christmas :( Boooo.

It all started yesterday. Sore throat, sniffles, dry cough, sneezing. I woke up this morning and I didn't have a voice at first because my throat is so sore. And my ears are starting to hurt a little. Usually, I can handle a cold just fine by taking dayquil and nyquil and just riding it out. But I don't think there is much I can take now that I'm pregnant. I'm also worried because when I'm sick my asthma tends to get aggravated. It's been pretty good for awhile now, but I'm worried I'm gonna need to use my inhaler or nebulizer and I'm not really comfortable with that with the pregnancy. So, please all suggestions are welcome as to what I can take to help kick this cold and feel better! I'm going to call my OB to see what they say, but I wanted to ask you girls too...

Thanks! :)

Try doing a sinus rinse. It is just warmed salt water that you shoot up your nose. Even if you don't have a sinus infection, it gets the germs out, and as gross as it is initially, it feels amazing.

Try the neti pot. It is meant for sinuses, but will make you much more comforatable and its just warm water and a little salt!
Feel better!!!

The Neti Pot is my savior. I use that plus zinc, echinacea, golden seal and vitamin C when I feel a cold coming on. Also, minced raw garlic if you can stomach it (sometimes I mix with a little honey and choke it down). I don't know about the golden seal during pregnancy so I would check with your Dr, but those are my natural remedies. Feel better!!!

No worries regarding your inhaler.. If it's albuterol you can use it. I had to use mine many moons ago with my 2nd pregnancy and even the nebulizer too. TX heat, asthma and pregnancy didn't mix well! So don't worry about that part. The warm salt water up the nose is awesome (afterwards, lol!) Feel Better soon!

I'm just coming off my cold (DH and Abbey both had it too) and I can't take much either due to breastfeeding. I had a sore throat too and used Vicks Vitamin C (no methol) drops a lot...they helped sooth my throat and gave me a boost of VitC
LOOOOOOOOTS of fluids to help flush it out....and for sure sinus rinses and neti pot as they are magic!
Do you have a humidifier? That can help too.
for me the biggest problem was coughing at night due to post nasal drip. I've been propping up a couple pillows and sleeping half sitting which isn't super comfy but helps...dunno how that would go over with a baby bump though.
Get well soon hun...I'm still hackingup phlegm and it sucks at the holidays!

I use my neti pot and have my nebulizer packed away at present time. Make sure you use distilled or boiled water in your neti pot though to prevent the brain eating amoebas. Try one of those Kaz brand therapy steams for the face and sinuses. I have that device as well. I know how bad asthma can get. Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor warned me it can get worse during pregnancy too.
