Little Lessons Learned

Here are some of the little lessons I've learned while pregnant and/or visiting Labor & Delivery...

  • "Baby Brain" does exist. I totally find myself forgetting words, forgetting things, and just generally feeling off kilter in the organization department.
  • I have to remember to bring a variety of "breathable" socks with me when it's delivery time. I found myself sweating to death on the bed. When my feet are hot...the rest of me is hot!
  • Or get regular pedicures as I get closer to my due date. My feet are a hot mess right now, so swollen, nail polish chipping off.  While we were at the hospital I was disgusted with my feet, so if I'm gonna go "no socks" on delivery day I'd at least like my swollen piggies to look somewhat presentable.
  • Grooming the lady parts is pretty much non existent right now. I can't even see down there. So it's for the most part a lost cause.
  • I've learned that I will lose all dignity and modesty. For example, Saturday and Monday in the hospital I had about 4 people all up in my junk at the same time. A free show for all. Normally, I'm a very modest girl. And I know come delivery I won't give a crap if it's the cafeteria cook up in there I'll just want baby out safely! But for now, I'm trying to keep some modesty and my recent visit to L&D made that very hard!
  • What's also cool is not being able to bend and reach like I used to to shave my legs normally. So I now have the "halfsies" thing doing where just the bottom portion of my legs get shaved. And not very well, btw.
  • My wardrobe is probably the saddest it's ever been, but I don't care, I have a beautiful baby growing inside me! Although, I never thought I would ever actually miss regular jeans. Like a great fitting pair of jeans that make you feel good!
  • Tying my sneakers is becoming difficult. And I only have three pairs of shoes right now. Flip flops for when I'm home, sneakers, and a pair of dressier boots.
  • I'm sure I've learned many other things while pregnant but the "baby brain" is settling in :)
  • Anyone take Macrobid before? It's making me SO sick :(
***LOL. I've gotten some comments on how I've remained modest so far after all the infertility treatments. Truth is it freaked me four years ago when I started the treatments. However, it seems like at the IF clinic they covered you up a little more. At L&D there is no covering, it's just all out there for everyone and their mom to see! ****

Ballet flats are a good idea while pregnant as they tend to go with just about everything and are easiest to done when the weather is not flip flop warmth.

Most women, I've been told either have their spouses shave the parts they want shaved or just say the heck with it altogether.

I've learned that there are times that something isn't worth bending over to pick up off the floor.

And I always say that my personal bubble became non-existant after going through IVF. I'm impressed that yours is just now popping!

Wait, you were able to keep your modesty while undergoing IF treatments?? I was very conservative prior to IF, but now, I think if someone told me to drop my pants in the middle of a crowded hall I'd do it and not think twice!

Oh you are a funny girl but how on earth did you remain "modest". I left mine at the door a long time ago :) well only in terms of infertility! I think I am going to make Chippie be in charge of beatifying me for labour. So he will have to paint my toes and shave my legs!! ha ha. Let me know how you go with bending thing. Maybe we could invent a pregnant picker upper thingie :)

All of this is so true....it bugs me that I can't tend to my feet or lady parts anymore....but I guess it is what it is! Oh and I am in L&D right now due to possible pre-term labor (they've been able to slow me down though,) and while I was in the bathroom butt ass naked.....the nurse just walked right on in! I was like "uhhhhhhhh'" but you know she is totally used to seeing big ol pregnant ladies!!!!

Oh yeah, modesty gone. After delivery, they help you pee from goodness sakes! AND They help you spray stuff on your junk and "Tend" to your wound. Yep, out out the window, lol!

A thought on the socks - they MADE me wear the grippy ones they provided - I think for liability issues. So you might have to do that?

And the jean thing - I have bought 2 very nice pairs of jeans since I lost all my baby weight. I LOVE pairing them with boots! I STILL Get excited to have them after being pregnant:). I didn't realize how nice that could be until I got pregnant, lol!

Being pregnant is SO unique and so fun! Enjoy it - and forget about the landscaping and shaving issues, lol! No biggie!

Ok, I just seriously LOL"D!!!! Modest? No way! I came to the realization with all three of my pregnancies that there is no such thing as being modest when visiting L&D. I had two cerclages placed in two different pregnancies and just LOVED it how they would prep me in the OR, gown pinned to two poles to cover my view and THEN the doc would scrub in! Yeah!!! Not a good feeling to be put up in thigh stir ups with NO covering then everyone standing there talking while doc is scrubbing in. Dont get me started on the whole OR thing in L&D. I finally got used to the clinic, like you said they actually try to cover you up, but L&D NO WAY!!! Thanks for not making me feel alone in that aspect as well as the whole personal grooming while pregnant! LOL!!!

When I delivered last week I assumed I'd have socks on since I'm always freezing and haven't done my toes in months. Instead I ended up barefoot during delivery. Afterwards I realized that getting a pedicure would have been a really good idea :)

I'll be your pedicure buddy!! I'm always down for a good pedi and my feet could REALLY use it...

Oh, and thanks for the heads up on all the things I have to look forward to! lol

I couldn't have cared less who saw what when I gave birth. It was such a surreal experience and with epidural on board- I couldn't even feel those parts anyways! I did get a pedicure the week before so my toes would look good. No such luck with the shaving... :)

Great post Sarah! My modesty has been gone for a little while but I can imagine it will only get worse. :p and baby brain totally exists, it keeps happening to me all the time! I also spill on myself all the time!? Lol! So many funny things hey?? Ps. I finally updated, turns out I could all this time?? Sheesh!

WARNING: Pregnancy Brain only turns to Mommy Brain. I scare myself at the things I forget or sometimes how stupid I appear. It makes me flash back to when I was 14 and thought my mom was so dumb. Now, I realize I made her that way!
